How to Save Money at Home Depot Now That The Store’s Coupon Policies Have Changed

A friend told me that you could use Harbor Freight coupons (those 20% off of any one item deals found in coupon inserts) at Home Depot. I never knew that, so I told my husband who was excited. After all these years and treks to HD and all that money spent without a coupon!

But….a big but…I did some digging and came up with the news that although some stores may or may not accept these coupons, they now are not supposed to accept any competitor’s coupons. HD has even come out with a policy about price matching and they will take off another 10% if they price match an item. And then there are those annoying deals of the day I get via email.

And…here’s a little trick I never knew about…maybe it’s new! Now HD has the BOPUIS (buy online, pick up in store) program. Click here for more details. Sooooo, I saw a post here that mentions buying online (and the site, One Project Closer, tracks HD sales), using an online coupon code from RetailMeNot.com (or anywhere else you can find them) then pick up the item at the store.

Home Depot
If you subscribe to one of Home Depot’s newsletters, you are sent a $5 off coupon. This one didn’t work when I tried to click on it, so that’s why there’s no link here. But, I was able to get a coupon through its gardening newsletter.

There are also little ways to get $5 coupons — like when you subscribe to various newsletters they put out. I subscribed to a gardening one and printed out a $5 coupon last year (that I forgot to use, naturally).

For a more reliable way of saving money, just go with HD’s new policy:

If you find a current lower price on an identical, in-stock item from any local retailer, we will match the price and beat it by 10%. Excludes special orders, bid pricing, volume discounts, open-box merchandise, labor and installation, sales tax, rebate and free offers, typographical errors and online purchases. (Find that quote here.)

Good to know for upcoming springtime clean-up projects! If anyone else finds a way to save at HD, by all means, let us know in the comments!!

Thanks,

Marilyn, TFF

  1. Thanks for the stuff and I love to get my shopping through Home depot using oupons as it is my fav store where I enjoy to buy things. I often use Home Depot coupons from Ezcouponsearch and retail me not to get the discount and most of the time I am given a reasonable discount that is though not enough but it is reasonable.
