Don’t knock it till you try it. Head down to Goodwill of Westport. You never know what you will find.
With growing children, I only buy brand new if I absolutely have to. I am lucky in that my children are the youngest on my husband’s side, and I have no shame in accepting hand-me downs. Now you may think that once your kids become fashion-conscious, things may change. But maybe not.
Enter, Goodwill of Westport, where at any given visit, you will be parked between a Mercedes SUV and a fill-in-the-blank luxury convertible. The point is, here’s a place where you can find good quality, fashionable clothing and more for a whole lot less. In this economy, how can we afford not to teach our children about how to budget? If you follow our blog, you know that Marilyn and I strive to show that being frugal doesn’t have to mean buying cheap quality stuff.
Here’s what our family got today:
Practically brand new Adidas Classic Sambas for our daughter, US size 4.5/UK size 4 – $25.00. Brand new, they are $45.00 – $60.00.

Two items were on the weekly half-off special:
Army issue shorts (in army green, what a surprise) for my husband – $2.00
Independent Designer boatneck sweater for me – $4.99
Four items that had an additional birthday month discount, with my “club card”:
Banana Republic long sleeve top for my husband – $7.49
Gap shorts for my son – $2.99
Nike moisture wicking shirt for my daughter – $2.99
Tank top for my daughter – $2.99 (now I can return the one I paid $7.50 for at Old Navy. Silly me for thinking the special sale was 2 for that price, rather than buy two and you get each one for $7.50 price)

When I have more time, in between gardening, swim lessons and grilling, I will post about the Frugal Foodie Kitchen buys I’ve gotten at Goodwill of Westport since its Grand Re-opening.
Hope you are having a great start to your summer!
~Aimee, TFF
